BEIJING, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- The following are the highlights of China's major technology news from the past week:
UAV MAIDEN FLIGHT
China's WJ-700, a high-altitude, high-speed and long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) capable of conducting reconnaissance and strike, has performed its maiden flight, its developer announced Wednesday.
The WJ-700 has adopted a number of advanced technologies. Its key indicators such as endurance, range and carrying capacity reached the advanced level.
RIVER RUNOFF IN WORLD'S ROOF
As Earth's climate continues to grow warmer, increased river runoff in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, known as the roof of the world, has provided more fresh water, but may not quench the growing thirst of millions downstream.
An article published in the scientific journal Nature Climate Change says that the more river runoff brought on by both increased rainfall and glacier melting may not meet rising water demands from the growing population in regions of the Indus and the Ganges.
ROCKET ENGINE DEVELOPING
China is creating a new line of rocket engines for its upcoming space missions. Progress has been made in key technologies for a hydrogen/oxygen high-thrust staged combustion cycle engine, which will serve the country's heavy-lift carrier rockets.
NEUROINFLAMMATION TREATMENT
Researchers in north China's Tianjin Municipality have developed a new synthetic enzyme with great application potential in treating neuroinflammation including Alzheimer's disease and cerebral injury.
TURNING WATER HEAT INTO ELECTRICITY
Researchers at the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology, have developed a type of insulated water bottle equipped with a thermoelectric chip that can turn water heat into electricity to charge a mobile phone. Enditem
