BEIJING, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.83 percent, at 3,566.38 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.74 percent lower at 15,003.99 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1.04 trillion yuan (about 160.3 billion U.S. dollars), up from 998.2 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to real estate and petroleum rose across the board, while shares of non-ferrous metals and ship-building industries led the decline.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 2.05 percent to close at 3,084.49 points Tuesday. Enditem
