HONG KONG, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- The construction of a new temporary hospital, conducted by engineers and workers from the Chinese mainland, will be completed here on Wednesday, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Carrie Lam said.

With the capacity of about 820 negative pressure beds, the hospital will greatly ease the pressure on Hong Kong's public health system amid the epidemic, Lam said in a letter to the Legislative Council.

Thanks to the mainland support, Hong Kong has significantly improved its facility and capacity in fighting COVID-19, with more quarantine and treatment facilities, Lam said.

Lam said the HKSAR government will make more anti-epidemic efforts with the ultimate goal of zero increase in new cases.

The mainland has firmly supported Hong Kong's battle against COVID-19. Medical professionals were sent here in the summer of 2020 for a mass testing program, and the treatment facility at AsiaWorld-Expo has also started operation. Enditem
