Shanghai reports three new confirmed COVID-19 cases

SHANGHAI, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai reported three new locally transmitted confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, local authorities said.

The three cases have been sent to a designated hospital for medical treatment, according to a press briefing on epidemic prevention and control.

Shanghai has formed a joint team of experts to carry out epidemiological investigations and take epidemic prevention measures targeting relevant personnel and the environment.

So far, 71 close contacts and 78 secondary close contacts of the three cases have been traced in Shanghai and put under centralized medical observation, of whom 62 have tested negative while the remaining 87 are waiting for their test results.

A total of 661 environmental samples have been collected from places connected with the outbreak. Four samples tested positive, 140 came back negative, while the remaining samples are currently being tested. Enditem
