BEIJING, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese mainland on Friday reported 107 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 90 locally transmitted and 17 arriving from outside the mainland, the National Health Commission said Saturday.

Of the locally transmitted cases, 56 were reported in Heilongjiang, 15 in Hebei, 13 in Jilin, three in Shanghai and three in Beijing, the commission said in its daily report.

Two new suspected cases were reported in Shanghai, one imported and the other locally transmitted. No deaths related to the disease were reported on Friday, said the commission.

By the end of Friday, the mainland had reported 4,589 imported COVID-19 cases in total. Among them, 4,296 had been discharged from hospitals following recovery, and 293 remained hospitalized. No deaths had been reported among the imported cases.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland reached 88,911 by Friday, including 1,750 patients still receiving treatment, of whom 85 were in severe condition.

A total of 82,526 patients had been discharged from hospitals following recovery on the mainland, and 4,635 had died of the disease, according to the commission.

There were three suspected COVID-19 cases on the mainland on Friday, and 36,503 close contacts remained under medical observation.

Friday also saw 99 asymptomatic cases newly reported on the mainland, of which 10 arrived from outside the mainland. On the same day, 30 asymptomatic cases were re-categorized as confirmed cases.

There were 961 asymptomatic cases still under medical observation, of which 270 arrived from outside the mainland.

By the end of Friday, 9,928 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 168 deaths, had been reported in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 47 cases in Macao SAR, and 881 cases, including seven deaths, in Taiwan.

A total of 8,948 COVID-19 patients in Hong Kong SAR had been discharged from hospitals following recovery, 46 in Macao SAR, and 777 in Taiwan. Enditem
