BEIJING, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.11 percent to 3,573.34 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.4 percent higher at 15,413.84 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 923.2 billion yuan (about 142.77 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.01 trillion yuan the previous trading day.
Shares related to media and entertainment, furniture and textile machinery led the gains, with Beijing Enlight Media Co., Ltd. shares rising by 9.11 percent to close at 12.94 yuan apiece.
Going against the upward trend, stocks related to the brewing industry and airplane manufacturing reported losses. Stocks of Hunan-based liquor maker Jiugui Liquor Co., Ltd. fell 7.03 percent to close at 172.66 yuan.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of fast-growing enterprises, gained 0.7 percent to close at 3,281.03 points on Wednesday. Enditem
