SHANGHAI, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- The world's leading hospitality group IHG on Monday revealed its planned hotel openings in China through 2021, showing its confidence in further expansion in its fastest-growing region.

"Riding on the domestic tourism boom of China, we will explore more destinations and opportunities here to build our hotels," said Jolyon Bulley, CEO of IHG Greater China.

According to Bulley, IHG will continue to develop new projects in first-tier cities, and further expand its footprint in new leisure destinations and lower-tier cities.

He said that western China and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area will be especially important markets for IHG.

In 2021, IHG will open hotels in Yunnan and Sichuan provinces, both of which boast beautiful natural scenery, as well as in Shenzhen, Foshan and Chaozhou in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Meanwhile, the group also has plans to open new hotels in Shanghai and Beijing.

The company's Franchise Plus model will also continue to be its growth driver in 2021.

With international trips remaining off-limits due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Chinese consumers are opting for destinations within China, the group said. Enditem
