ZHUJI, China, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Marshon Brooks scored a game-high 36 points as the Guangdong Southern Tigers rallied to beat the Liaoning Flying Leopards 118-115 in the CBA here on Wednesday.
Brooks made a pair of free-throws to clinch the victory for Guangdong, who was 115-112 down with two minutes on the clock. Ren Junfei and Hu Mingxuan scored the crucial four points to turn around the table.
"Both two teams fought hard and presented a very nice game together. Our players spared no efforts and kept concentration during the whole game," Guangdong coach Du Feng said after the game.
Sonny Weems had 23 points and Zhao Rui added 16 points for Guangdong. O.J. Mayo scored 30 points and Zhang Zhenlin contributed 24 for Liaoning.
The game became an intense battle from the very first second. Brooks was on fire from downtown while Mayo dominated the paint as Guangdong led 54-52 in the first half.
After the break, a 7-0 spurt helped Guangdong take an 83-72 lead, only to see Liaoning responded with a 17-6 run to equalize the scoreline. Brooks' layup brought Guangdong a slender 91-89 advantage into the last quarter. Mayo scored seven points to lead a 12-2 run for Liaoning, who overturned the scoreline to 102-93 with nine minutes on the clock, before Weems and Brooks narrowed the gap to set up the late drama.
