AMMAN, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's Royal Commission for Jerusalem Affairs on Tuesday welcomed an International Criminal Court (ICC) ruling that the ICC has jurisdiction over the Palestinian territories under Israeli occupation including East Jerusalem, state-run Petra news agency reported.
Jordan will remain the defender of Palestinian rights and continue to support the Palestinians' legal right in the establishment of their state on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, the Commission said.
The ICC ruling could lead to the arrest and criminal investigation of Israeli political and military leaders accused of war crimes against unarmed Palestinian civilians, Abdullah Kanaan, secretary general of the Commission, was quoted by Petra as saying.
Israel could also face trial for settlement activity and aggression on Islamic and Christian holy sites, including the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and an attempt to burn down the Romanian Orthodox Church in Jerusalem, he added. Enditem
