RIYADH, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud and U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on Friday discussed bilateral defense cooperation via phone, Saudi media reported.

The U.S. official reaffirmed the bilateral strategic defense partnership, and underscored Saudi Arabia's role in regional security and stability, the Saudi Press Agency said.

The two sides also reviewed aspects of bilateral relations and means of enhancing them, said the report.

Austin condemned the recent Houthi cross-border attacks on Saudi Arabia and expressed the U.S. commitment to assisting the Kingdom in the defense of its borders.

The phone call was made after recent and frequent attacks by Houthi militia against various border areas in Saudi Arabia.

The Abha International Airport in southwestern Saudi Arabia was one of the recent targets, in which a drone attack caused a fire in a civilian plane. Enditem
