BEIJING, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- The following are the highlights of China's science news from the past week:

FAST RADIO BURST SIGNAL

China's Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope, the country's space science satellite also known as Insight, has found that a fast radio burst signal detected last year came from a magnetar in the Milky Way.

The discovery marked a milestone in understanding the nature of the mysterious signal emanating from the universe, the scientists said Friday.

NEW SECURITY CHECK EQUIPMENT

Chinese researchers have developed a new set of security check equipment that can be used at subway stations, railway stations and airports, with quick response and high accuracy.

One of these equipment is a portable explosive trace detector capable of detecting as many as 21 risky items, such as black powder and firecrackers, within three seconds.

SATELLITE FACTORY

A satellite factory of Chinese automaker Geely Holding Group will start production in October this year after authorities approved the commercial satellite-manufacturing project. It will have an annual output of more than 500 satellites.

DEEP-SEA OXYGEN

A recent study by researchers from China, the United States and France revealed that the deep-sea oxygen content surged 600 million years ago, which laid the foundation for the emergence of multicellular organisms. Enditem
