Oman suspends flights, bans entry of travelers from 10 countries

MUSCAT, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Oman has suspended flights and banned travelers from 10 countries as a precaution against the spread of the coronavirus, the official Oman News Agency reported on Tuesday.

The country's Supreme Committee tasked with the COVID-19 pandemic imposed a ban on travelers from Sudan, Lebanon, South Africa, Brazil, Nigeria, Tanzania, Ghana, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Ethiopia.

The restriction measures, which will last at least two weeks, will take effect as of Thursday.

The Omani Health Ministry on Tuesday announced 297 new COVID-19 infections, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the Sultanate to 139,989.

Meanwhile, 295 people recovered during the past 24 hours, taking the overall recoveries to 131,143, while two deaths were reported.

The ministry urged everyone to adhere to social distancing instructions issued by the government. Enditem
