HONG KONG, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Major political groups and organizations in Hong Kong have voiced their firm support for the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, on improving the electoral system of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

A draft decision on improving the electoral system of the HKSAR was submitted on Friday to the fourth annual session of the 13th NPC for deliberation.

The Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB) said the existing electoral system of the HKSAR has obvious loopholes which the anti-China, destabilizing elements jumped on to enter the power structure of the SAR, wantonly obstruct the administration of the SAR government, and create social disturbances.

This deviates from the principle of "patriots administering Hong Kong," threatens the effective implementation of "one country, two systems" and damages national sovereignty, security and development interests. Therefore, it is imperative and timely to improve the election system of the HKSAR, the DAB said.

The Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions (FTU) said that in order to ensure the healthy development of the democratic political system, it is necessary to improve the electoral system of the HKSAR as soon as possible so as to stop those who created "black terror", threatened "mutual destructions" and spread "Hong Kong independence" from taking into their hands the power to administer the HKSAR.

Only by firmly upholding the principle of "patriots administering Hong Kong" and building consensus on fully developing the economy and improving people's livelihood can Hong Kong achieve prosperity and stability, the FTU said.

The Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong said only by improving the electoral system can the Hong Kong society get back to the right track, refocus on the improvement of people's wellbeing and realize the lasting security and stability.

The New People's Party said that the Hong Kong-related agenda of the session will correct the loopholes and deficiencies in the electoral system of the HKSAR and achieve the goal of "patriots administering Hong Kong". It is the proper time to improve Hong Kong's electoral system. Only by ensuring that the administration of Hong Kong by Hong Kong people with patriots as the main body can Hong Kong enter a new phase of development.

The Liberal Party of Hong Kong said the NPC's draft decision on improving the electoral system of the HKSAR will correct the wrongs and help Hong Kong's long-term development and ensure the steady and sustained implementation of "one country, two systems."

The implementation of "patriots administering Hong Kong" is of great practical and historical significance, the Friends of Hong Kong Association said, stressing that only by eradicating the hidden dangers and risks in the systems and mechanisms and ensuring the administration of Hong Kong by Hong Kong people with patriots as the main body, can the effective governance of the HKSAR and the steady development of "one country, two systems" be guaranteed.

The Hong Kong Coalition said improving the electoral system of the HKSAR falls within the purview of the central authorities and the related measures of the NPC are legitimate and reasonable.

The organization believed it will not only help Hong Kong's overall development but also enable Hong Kong to focus on solving deep-seated problems and ensure people's well-being. Enditem
