DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY FOR SENIORS
China's tech giants have been making efforts to lower tech barriers for seniors, rolling out new features to help older people better access digital technology.
Mobile phone manufacturers Xiaomi, Huawei and Oppo rolled out features to let the tech-savvy young generation help their parents with their smartphones via remote access and screen sharing. Baidu launched a large-font search app, which features a "companion radio" broadcasting the hottest news of the day and supporting voice search.
ANTI-HIV DRUG
China's first domestically developed drug for the treatment of HIV infection has been approved by the health authority of Ecuador to access the country's market, according to pharmaceutical producer Frontier Biotech.
Aikening, or albuvirtide for injection, was approved by China Food and Drug Administration in 2018. Data from clinical trials show that Aikening is effective against major strains of HIV, including resistant viruses, and the efficacy is long-lasting.
PATENT TECHNOLOGY TRANSFERS
China has launched a three-year plan to offer monetary incentives to provincial-level regions that have made achievements in fostering patent technology transfers from small and medium-sized enterprises.
Provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities with well-developed schemes, proper measures, strong execution and outstanding achievements in transferring patent technologies will each be awarded 100 million yuan (about 15.3 million U.S. dollars), according to the plan. Enditem
