BEIJING, May 12 (Xinhua) -- The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has listed five aspects of Chinese Olympic champion Shi Tingmao's success in diving.

In a website post entitled "Shi Tianmao - Five things to know about the Chinese diver", Shi was dubbed the leading diver of the Chinese team at the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics, talking up her chances of winning gold medals this summer.

"The 29-year-old diver from Chongqing has won every major international title," the post wrote, noting that Shi won the 3m springboard and synchronised 3m springboard events in Rio 2016, along with eight world titles and five Asian Games.

Shi Tingmao didn't start out as a diver, as she originally trained as a gymnast when she was five years old before turning to diving at eight. She was originally named Shi Tingting, but 'ting' is a Chinese homophone for the word 'to stop', so she was renamed Tingmao by her grandfather, which means "working diligently for the country".

The diving champion only joined China's national team at the comparatively late age of 21 in 2012, an age by which some divers have already retired from the sport. Her idol is Wu Minxia, China's most decorated Olympic diver.

Shi is unbeaten in major international competitions since 2013, having conquered the Diving World Cup, World Championships, Asian Games, and Olympic Games. Enditem
