Former senior political advisor of Hainan tried for bribery

NANNING, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Wang Yong, former vice chairman of the Hainan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, was charged with accepting bribes and stood trial on Thursday at the Intermediate People's Court of Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Wang was accused of taking advantage of his former positions in Hainan between 2000 and 2020 to seek gains for others in project approval, contracting and job promotion.

In return, he accepted money and gifts worth more than 90.47 million yuan (about 14 million U.S. dollars), according to prosecutors.

Wang pleaded guilty and expressed remorse.

The trial was attended by legislators, political advisors, the press and members of the public.

Wang's sentence will be announced at a later date. Enditem
