CAIRO, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Iraq reported on Friday 2,767 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest daily number in three months. Meanwhile, Israel extended the ban on travel to eight countries amid worries of their high morbidity levels.

A total of 2,767 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours, raising the total nationwide infections to 1,134,859, according to the Iraqi Ministry of Health.

It also reported 27 new deaths in Iraq, raising the death toll from the infectious virus to 15,910, while the total recoveries climbed by 5,769 to 1,034,396.

Earlier in the day, Israel extended the ban on travel to Ukraine, Ethiopia, Brazil, India, South Africa, Mexico and Turkey until May 30, citing high morbidity levels in the seven countries, the health ministry said.

The ministry added that a ban would also be imposed on travel to Argentina unless there is a significant improvement in the COVID-19 morbidity situation in the South American country.

Israel reported 20 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, raising the total number in the country to 839,079.

The death toll from the virus rose by one to 6,380, while the number of patients in serious conditions increased from 67 to 73, out of 130 hospitalized patients.

The total recoveries in Israel rose to 831,950 after 62 newly recovered cases were added, while the number of active cases decreased to 749, the lowest since March 20, 2020.

Turkey on Friday confirmed 11,394 new COVID-19 cases, including 1,102 symptomatic patients, raising the total number of cases in the country to 5,095,390, according to its health ministry.

The death toll from the virus in Turkey rose by 242 to 44,301, while the total recoveries climbed to 4,894,024 after 37,261 more people recovered in the last 24 hours.

Iran reported 10,145 new COVID-19 cases, raising the country's total infections to 2,732,152.

The pandemic has so far claimed 76,433 lives in Iran, up by 202 in the past 24 hours, the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education said in a written briefing published on its official website.

A total of 2,196,197 people have recovered from the disease or been discharged from hospitals across the country, while 5,468 remain in intensive care units, the ministry said.

The Kuwaiti Health Ministry reported 763 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number in the country to 290,006.

The ministry also announced seven more fatalities, taking the death toll to 1,681, while the tally of recoveries rose by 1,191 to 275,745. A total of 12,580 COVID-19 patients are receiving treatment, including 190 in the intensive care units.

The Kuwaiti government has lifted the partial curfew, but all commercial activities are still suspended from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. local time, except for pharmacies, food marketing outlets, restaurants, and maintenance services.

Restaurants and cafes are allowed to receive orders but only for takeaways on their doorstep.

Lebanon registered on Friday 213 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections to 535,181, the Health Ministry reported.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the virus increased by 17 to 7,586.

Firas Abiad, director general at Rafic Hariri University Hospital (RHUH), said on Friday that RHUH will close one of its four COVID-19 intensive care units given the drop in cases.

Qatar announced 244 new COVID-19 infections, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the Gulf state to 212,667.

Meanwhile, 590 more recovered from the virus, bringing the overall recoveries to 205,750, while the fatalities increased by two to 524, according to a ministry statement quoted by QNA.

Morocco's COVID-19 tally rose to 514,705 on Friday as 35 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Health, the death toll rose to 9,092 with one new fatality during the last 24 hours, while 207 people are in intensive care units.

The total number of recoveries from COVID-19 in Morocco increased to 502,604 after 399 new ones were added, the statement said. Enditem
