BEIJING, May 17 (Xinhua) -- During the first month since a new amendment to China's Criminal Law took effect on March 1, which outlaws violent assaults against police officers on duty, a total of 405 suspects in this regard have been arrested, the top procuratorate said Monday.
Also, a total of 101 suspects have been indicted, according to case statistics released by the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP).
The SPP analysis found that most of these cases involved minor violence, and there were close links between such offenses and drunkenness.
Such violations generally took place while the suspects were attempting to obstruct police enforcement. After sobering up, most of the suspects showed repentance, the SPP data revealed. Enditem
