AMMAN, May 17 (Xinhua) -- King Abdullah II of Jordan said on Monday that recurrent Israeli measures and provocations against the Palestinian people led to the escalation of situation.

During a phone call with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, King Abdullah reiterated that there is no alternative to a political solution that leads to just and comprehensive peace on the basis of the two-state solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

The king stressed Jordan's relentless efforts to safeguard Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

He called on the international community to shoulder responsibilities and take action to stop Israeli violations and push the peace process forward.

Also on Monday, during the call with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said the only way to stop escalation is ending the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and all its illegal and provocative practices in the West Bank and Al-Aqsa Mosque. Enditem
