NANYANG, China, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Reigning world champion Liu Shiwen was China's first Olympic squad member to suffer an exit in the country's table tennis Olympic simulation, losing 4-0 in the women's singles quarterfinals here on Saturday.

The 30-year-old, a record five-time World Cup winner and a member of China's Olympic team-winning squad at Rio 2016, left the court during the match for five minutes, before returning to lose in straight sets to her 22-year-old opponent.

He, who plays in a similar style to Japan's top female paddler Mima Ito, wrapped up the match in clinical style, winning 11-4, 16-14, 11-6, 11-8.

"It's a heated game. I enjoyed it and felt great to become the eventual winner," said the 2014 world youth championships bronze medalist and runner-up in the 2018 ITTF Finals women's singles event.

"I didn't think too much during the match, I just focused on every point that I could seize," she added.

He will next play the winner between world No. 1 Chen Meng, who spearheads China's challenge in the Olympic women's singles, and former Hong Kong Open champion Wang Yidi in the semifinals.

"For me, it's more like a chance to learn from the established players," He said.

In the men's singles draw, the world top pen-hold paddler Xu Xin comfortably beat Liang Jingkun 11-9, 11-6, 11-5, 12-10, and now faces either his men's doubles world title-winning partner Ma Long, or his younger teammate Xu Chenhao in the semifinals.

Earlier on Saturday, Olympic-bound pair Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha overcame Yu Ziyang and Wang Manyu 11-8, 7-11, 12-10, 9-11, 11-5, 11-9 to reach the mixed doubles final, where they will take on the Olympic-bound pair of Xu Xin and Liu Shiwen. Enditem
