BEIRUT, June 3 (Xinhua) -- World Bank Group Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa Ferid Belhaj said on Thursday that the World Bank is ready to contribute to the reconstruction of Lebanon's capital Beirut hit by two huge explosions at its port last year, the National News Agency reported.

"The World Bank is fully prepared to engage in any reconstruction project," Belhaj said.

His remarks came following his meeting with caretaker Health Minister Hamad Hassan over the World Bank's contributions in the fight against COVID-19 in Lebanon.

Belhaj noted that the World Bank will offer any support needed for Lebanon and the Lebanese government.

Meanwhile, Hassan said the loans offered by the World Bank give a glimmer of hope for the Lebanese and the people living in Lebanese during the current difficult times.

The World Bank allocated earlier this year 34 million U.S. dollars under the existing Lebanon Health Resilience Project to support the COVID-19 vaccination in the country. Enditem
