SHAOXING, China, June 12 (Xinhua) -- China's Wang Chunyu reached the Olympic standard in the women's 800 meters at the combined 2021 Chinese National Athletics Championships and Tokyo Olympic trials here on Saturday.

Wang had the lead from gun to tape, setting her personal best with one minute and 59.42 seconds in the rain, 0.08 seconds above than the Olympic A standard.

"The rain definitely slowed me down to some extent, I was expecting to finish in one minute and 59 seconds," said the 26-year-old Wang. "I have made some progress this year, and I am looking forward to entering the Olympic finals in Tokyo."

Another runner who made a breakthrough on Saturday was Wu Yanni. She was crowned in the women's 100 meters hurdles in 12.98 seconds, which refreshed her personal best. The 23-year-old shouted out loud with excitement when crossing the finishing line.

Rain came down hard and thunder roared when the women's 10,000 meters race kicked off. Zhang Deshun came first in 34 minutes and 36.97 seconds, and marathon runner Li Zhixuan ranked second with 34:38:35.

Meanwhile, Asian record holder Lyu Huihui threw furthest with an unsatisfying 59.35 meters in the women's javelin. Tan Qiujiao won the women's triple jump with 13.92 meters. Due to the heavy rains, finals of the men's and women's 4X100m relay were postponed.

In the morning session, Zhou Haowen and Liu Guojuan respectively won the men's and women's 400 meters race, while Wang Shaojie lifted the trophy in the men's 3,000m steeplechase. Shao Yuqi ranked first in the women's high jump. Enditem
