BEIJING, June 14 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

DINOSAUR, TURTLE TRACKS

Researchers from China and the United States jointly announced the discovery of a set of well-preserved dinosaur footprints and turtle swim tracks in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

The body length of the trackmakers is estimated to be 8.1 and 6.5 m, respectively. The former is close to the size of a large-size theropod, such as allosaurs, megalosaurs, or even a big Ceratosaurus. The turtle tracks represent the oldest occurrence of turtle footprints in China, according to researchers.

SECURITY SCANNER

Many Chinese ports and airports have begun using a self-made millimeter wave scanner for security checks, said its developer, an institute affiliated to the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation Limited.

The scanner has been put into use at 23 ports and eight airports along the country's borders, offering faster response and higher accuracy.

In contrast to the X-ray scanners of the past, the millimeter-wave scanner's radiation on a human body is one-thousandth that of a mobile phone signal, indicating that the instrument is safe for use on humans.

NEW DIGITAL MUSEUM

Meeting the characters from fresco paintings, flying over the city of ancient Beijing in a cabin, looking up at the "starry night" as Vincent van Gogh did... These ideas are likely to be realized at a new digital museum in Beijing.

Leveraging technologies such as 5G, 8K, and artificial intelligence, the new digital museum will be able to free historic sites from time and space constraints and make them come alive, according to a forum held by an institute affiliated with Beijing Film Academy. Enditem
