COLOMBO -- Researchers from one of Sri Lanka's leading universities, the Sri Jayewardenepura University, have found that China's Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine is highly efficient against the Delta variant which has become the dominant variant across the world.

"This vaccine was found very effective for the Delta variant as well. The antibody responses to delta variant and neutralizing antibodies were similar to levels seen following natural infection," the University said on its website on Monday.(Sri Lanka-Sinopharm vaccine)

NEW DELHI -- The latest survey conducted by India's top health research body, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), has found two-thirds of the country's general population above the age of six years have antibodies against COVID-19 but one in three are still vulnerable, officials said Tuesday.

JAKARTA -- The Indonesian government has decided to extend the emergency community activity restrictions, known locally as PPKM Darurat, to July 25 as the country is still fighting the second wave of COVID-19.

The emergency restrictions, which include a ban on dine-in services at restaurants and mandates to work from home for workers in nonessential sectors, were initially implemented on the country's most populated Island of Java and the resort Island of Bali from July 3 to July 20. HONG KONG -- Carrie Lam, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, said on Tuesday that under the Belt and Road Initiative, the positioning of Hong Kong and the economic zone of the Bohai Rim can be complementary and the two can achieve coordinated development.

Giving a video speech at a forum, Lam said Hong Kong has closer ties with Southeast Asian countries, while the Bohai Rim has frequent exchanges with Northeast Asian countries.
