HONG KONG, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong's goods exports and imports continued to register significant growth in June, official data showed Monday.
Exports surged 33 percent year on year to 406.6 billion Hong Kong dollars (52.29 billion U.S. dollars) last month, and imports rose 31.9 percent year on year to 447.1 billion Hong Kong dollars (57.49 billion U.S. dollars), the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government said in a report.
In the first six months of 2021, total exports rose 30 percent from a year ago and imports increased 26.8 percent.
A spokesman of the HKSAR government said exports to the mainland, the United States and the European Union all accelerated in growth, while those to other Asian markets also expanded by varying degrees.
Looking ahead, the spokesman said the improved external environment should continue to support Hong Kong's export performance in the near term, but the recent surge of COVID-19 mutant infections may hinder the pace of economic recovery in some major markets. Enditem
