JERUSALEM, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Israel said on Wednesday that it has fired three rounds of artillery into Lebanon after three rockets were fired earlier from there.

"For the third time within two hours, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) struck along the Lebanese border," an Israeli military spokesperson said in a statement.

"Artillery forces struck in Lebanese territory in response to the rockets fired at Israeli territory earlier today," the statement added.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

In the rocket attack, two projectiles struck northern Israel and a third failed to reach Israeli territory, according to the army.

Israel's Magen David Adom emergency health service wrote on Twitter that there were no injuries on the Israeli side, and posted a photo showing smoke rising from an arid field.

Israel's state-owned Kan TV news reported that Israeli security officials believe that Wednesday's fire and a previous rocket attack on July 20 were carried out by small Palestinian groups in Lebanon. Both caused no damage or injury in Israel.

Since a month-long bloody war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006, the Israel-Lebanon border has been mostly quiet. Enditem
