BEIJING, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.17 percent, at 3,656.22 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.61 percent lower at 14,536.31 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1.35 trillion yuan (about 210 billion U.S. dollars) as against 1.51 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to electricity posted a strong performance while those in the cement sector led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.12 percent to close at 3,200.40 points. Enditem
