BEIJING, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.34 percent at 3,607.09 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.91 percent lower at 14,258.13 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1.48 trillion yuan (about 230 billion U.S. dollars), increasing from 1.35 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to poultry husbandry, pork and crop farming showed strong performance, while those in the organosilicon and photovoltaic sectors led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 2.24 percent to close at 3,128.84 points. Enditem
