BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.19 percent, at 3,613.97 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.71 percent higher at 14,359.36 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1.34 trillion yuan (about 208 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.48 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to wind power and Baijiu (a type of Chinese liquor) showed strong performance, while those in the coal and steel sectors led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 2.06 percent to close at 3,193.26 points. Enditem
