TIANJIN, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- International experts, scholars and diplomats have gathered at an online seminar to discuss China's newly issued human-rights action plan and the country's progress on human rights protection.

Jiang Duan, minister of the Chinese mission to the United Nations in Geneva attended Wednesday's seminar via video link. Diplomats from Egypt, Sri Lanka, Laos and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea also joined discussions during the event.

The action plan highlighted the protection of environmental rights and enriched their meaning, said Tang Yingxia, deputy director of the human-rights research center at Nankai University.

Other participants hailed various aspects of the new document, including protecting the right to education and the rights of particular groups, as well as improving judicial guarantees for human-rights protection.

International experts also commended China's achievements in safeguarding human rights, especially in terms of eliminating poverty, which has contributed to the cause of global poverty reduction.

China's fourth human rights action plan -- "Human Rights Action Plan of China (2021-2025)" -- was released by the State Council Information Office earlier this month. Enditem
