BEIJING, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- China's civil aviation industry has achieved 134 consecutive months of safe flight operations as of the end of October, according to the civil aviation authorities.

As of the end of October, the country's civil aviation industry maintained 97.53 million hours of safe flight operation, showed data from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

Over the 134 months, the sector safely served up to 5.01 billion air passengers.

China's civil aviation authorities stressed zero-tolerance for safety risks. The authorities are committed to maintaining the safe flights of the air transport sector in 2021 by eradicating major accidents and preventing safety risks both on the ground and in the air.

Despite the severe challenges from COVID-19, China's air transport sector has maintained recovery momentum thanks to the country and the industry's persistent efforts in epidemic prevention and control.

In October, the industry saw a minor month-to-month increase in major indicators. Such as in total air transport turnover, air passengers and freight volume.

Compared with the pre-epidemic level in the same period in 2019, the total air transport turnover, air passengers and freight volume recovered to 65.6 percent, 68.2 percent and 90.6 percent, respectively.

Notably, the air cargo volume carried by all-cargo freighters reached 229,000 tonnes, flat compared to the same period in 2019, data from the CAAC showed.

The civil aviation authorities are committed to keeping epidemic prevention and control and safety operation the key to facilitate stable recovery of the industry, said the CAAC. Enditem
