CAIRO, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit welcomed on Sunday the declaration signed in Khartoum between General Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and removed Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, which included reappointing Hamdok as prime minister.

The declaration came as a result of the huge and continuous Sudanese efforts over the past weeks to get out of the crisis the country has witnessed, according to an official statement from the Arab League.

The statement noted that the Arab League and its organizations will work closely with the government that Hamdok will form to implement the goals of the constitutional document signed in 2019 and the Juba Peace Agreement in 2020, which underpin Sudan's democratic transition.

The declaration signed on Sunday comprises 14 items, most notably reappointing Hamdok as prime minister, considering the constitutional document as the reference for the transitional period, releasing the political detainees, completing the transitional institutions, and investigating the killing and injury of civilians and military personnel during the recent demonstrations.

Sudan has been suffering from a political crisis after Al-Burhan declared a state of emergency on Oct. 25 and dissolved the Sovereign Council and cabinet. On Nov. 11, Al-Burhan issued a constitutional decree ordering the formation of a transitional Sovereign Council and naming himself as chairman of the council.

Since then, the capital Khartoum and other cities have witnessed mass demonstrations rejecting the measures by the army commander.

A civilian-military transitional authority was established in Sudan following the ouster of the government of former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on April 11, 2019. Enditem
