BEIJING, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese political advisors on Friday discussed measures to advance the development and protection of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at a consultation session in Beijing.

The biweekly session was held by the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top political advisory body. Wang Yang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the session.

Wang called for better coordination in the development and protection of TCM resources, and the promotion of the high-quality development of the TCM industry.

Ten political advisors and invited representatives offered proposals at the session. Over 100 political advisors voiced their opinions via a mobile platform.

The political advisors urged more efforts to collect, sort and protect ancient books on TCM, and strengthen the collection and safeguarding of protected TCM recipes and techniques. They stressed the need to establish a database of ancient books on TCM.

Modern science should be used to interpret why TCM works, the political advisors noted, calling for the improved quality of TCM materials and the cultivation of more specialized TCM talent, including masters of TCM.

They also called for greater cooperation with countries along the Belt and Road on TCM. Enditem
