HANGZHOU, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- East China's Zhejiang Province reported 79 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and one asymptomatic carrier from 4 p.m. Thursday to 4 p.m. Friday, said the provincial government.

The confirmed cases were in the cities of Ningbo and Shaoxing. A total of 421 confirmed cases and two asymptomatic ones have occurred in Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Shaoxing since the latest outbreak beginning Dec. 5, said the provincial health committee, adding that the elderly accounted for most of the confirmed cases.

Closed-off management has been implemented in all the 1,780 nursing institutions for the aged in the province. No confirmed cases have been reported among the more than 120,000 elderly and 31,200 staffers so far. Enditem
