ZHENGZHOU, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- The city of Anyang in central China's Henan Province reported 37 new locally-transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases on Friday, local authorities said Saturday.

Among the newly confirmed cases, 21 tested positive at centralized quarantine sites, 15 were detected in mass nucleic acid testing and one tested positive while in home quarantine, the municipal epidemic prevention and control headquarters told a press conference.

All the cases have been transferred to designated hospitals, and epidemiological investigations have identified clear transmission chains of 35 cases, according to the authorities.

The city has logged 235 confirmed cases since the latest resurgence on Jan. 8.

The source of the resurgence in Anyang City has been traced to a college student who returned to Anyang's Tangyin County from north China's Tianjin Municipality on Dec. 28, 2021. As of Thursday, Tianjin had reported a total of 142 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 22 asymptomatic carriers. Enditem
