BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese legislators met on Friday to study an important speech delivered at the sixth plenary session of the 19th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Commission for Discipline Inspection by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.

The meeting of the leading Party members group of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, was presided over by Li Zhanshu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee and secretary of its leading Party members group. Li also delivered a speech at the meeting.

Xi's speech reviewed the successful self-reform of the CPC in the new era, and expounded on historical and groundbreaking achievements made in the full and strict governance over the Party, the meeting said.

It urged efforts to uphold Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as the guiding principle for the work of people's congresses, and ensure that the people's congress system moves in the right direction, set by the CPC Central Committee and General Secretary Xi Jinping.

The meeting also stressed the importance of efforts to earnestly adhere to, implement and improve the people's congress system and continue to develop whole-process people's democracy.

Full and strict governance over the Party must be advanced to improve Party building in the NPC, the meeting said. Enditem
