BEIJING, April 12 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Emergency Management (MEM) warned on Tuesday that the country would enter a high-risk period for forest and grassland fires from April 15 as temperatures continue to rise.

Warmer weather, low precipitation and increasing gusts are piling up fire risks in wildness areas, MEM official Peng Xiaoguo told a press conference.

Peng added that activities such as spring farming, mountain travels and construction activity in wooded or pastoral areas could also trigger fires.

With forest firefighters and firefighting aircraft on guard nationwide, the ministry will station fire brigades in regions more prone to forest fires and prepare the necessary equipment and supplies, Peng said.

The ministry said it would also dispatch more firefighting forces to protect against wildfires in areas of ecological significance such as key forest zones and national parks. Enditem
