BEIJING, May 5 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

SATELLITE LAUNCH

China on Thursday launched a Long March-2D rocket to place a group of eight satellites in space.

Satellite Jilin-1 Kuanfu 01C, together with seven Jilin-1 Gaofen 03D satellites, was lifted at 10:38 a.m. (Beijing Time) from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in the northern province of Shanxi and soon entered the preset orbit. Having a wide coverage, Jilin-1 Kuanfu 01C will be used to provide commercial remote sensing data services for sectors such as land resource, mineral exploration and smart city construction.

AERIAL ROBOTS

Chinese scientists have developed a new flight path planning system that can help miniature, fully autonomous drone swarms fly smartly through crowded forests, without collisions.

The planning system enabled 10 aerial robots to collectively maneuver unhindered through a cluttered bamboo forest and find the most efficient flight path, according to the study published Thursday in the journal Science Robotics.

SPACE TELESCOPE

Chinese Survey Space Telescope, also known as the Chinese Space Station Telescope and Xuntian Space Telescope, is a space-based optical observatory for astronomers to carry out sky surveys, capturing a general map or images of the sky. Slated to be launched at the end of 2023, it is expected to provide humankind with fresh knowledge about distant galaxies, mysterious dark matter and dark energy, and the past and future evolutions of the universe.
