BEIJING, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Pork prices in China edged down last week, official data shows.

From May 5 to 6, the average pork price tracked by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs was 20.02 yuan (about 2.98 U.S. dollars) per kg, down 1.2 percent week on week.

The price was still 24 percent lower than a year ago.

Data from May 1 to 4 was not available as the country had the Labor Day holiday.

The National Development and Reform Commission announced in February that pork would be stockpiled to replenish state reserves, as the national average of pork prices against grain prices had dropped below a warning level.

The stockpiling work has begun in provincial-level regions, including Beijing, Jiangxi, Hubei, and Chongqing, according to the commission. Enditem
