1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close lower Wednesday

BEIJING, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.25 percent, at 3,085.98 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.2 percent lower at 11,208.08 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 770.3 billion yuan (about 114.25 billion U.S. dollars), down from 789.9 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Shares related to camping, textile manufacturing and education led the gains, while those in the sectors of coal and traditional Chinese medicine suffered some of the biggest losses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.16 percent to close at 2,365.38 points Wednesday. Enditem
