SPACE TRACKING SHIP YUANWANG-3

China's space tracking ship Yuanwang-3 Thursday set sail for its first voyage this year from a port in east China's Jiangsu Province. The vessel will carry out its 100th maritime mission during this voyage.

CRAB-LIKE ROBOT

Chinese and the U.S. scientists have developed a tiny, untethered crab-like robot capable of walking in different directions at varying speeds.

A study published in the journal Science Robotics detailed the microbots, which are made of shape-memory alloy. Lasers are used to directly manipulate their movements.

RICE GENE FOR DROUGHT RESISTANCE

A Chinese research team has found a new gene that can improve rice's drought resistance, said a study published in Plant Biotechnology Journal.

The gene OsRINGzf1 could reduce cell water loss by reducing water channels in cells, thus improving the rice plant's ability to retain water under drought conditions.

The research team compared many rice plants grown under drought conditions with those grown under normal conditions to find the gene that regulates drought resistance. Enditem
