BEIJING, June 11 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news in China.

COVID-19 VACCINE

Two mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccine candidates produced by Chinese manufacturer CanSino Biologics have proven effective in preclinical trials, suggesting the potential for human tests.

The study results showed that the two vaccines, the mRNA-Beta and mRNA-Omicron, can induce high-titer neutralizing antibody levels against original and multiple SARS-CoV-2 variants, such as Beta, Delta and Omicron.

POTATO GENOME SEQUENCES

Scientists have mapped out high-quality genome sequences for 44 wild and cultivated potatoes and found a pivotal gene that makes potatoes the world's important non-cereal food crop.

An international team led by Chinese researchers examined, among the genome sequences, 732 genes that are predominantly expressed in the stolon or tuber, and identified a transcription factor that allow the potato to grow tuber.

GLOBAL CLIMATE SYSTEM DATASET

A Chinese institute has developed a climate system model FGOALS-g3 and produced a super-large ensemble simulation dataset with 110 members.

Each member of the dataset covers coupling simulations of oceans, atmosphere, sea ice, and land surface in a period from 1850 to 2099. The surface air temperature and land precipitation simulated by the FGOALS-g3 super-large ensemble have been validated and projected. Enditem
