BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news in China.

ATMOSPHERIC NEUTRON

China's Atmospheric Neutron Irradiation Spectrometer (ANIS) has recently passed the acceptance test, according to the Institute of High Energy Physics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

ANIS is the only facility in China that is capable of conducting accelerated atmospheric neutron irradiation tests and producing high flux neutron beams with an atmospheric neutron spectrum similar to that in the real space and terrestrial environment.

RETINAL CELLS

Chinese scientists have identified a specific kind of retinal cells and found the removal of the cell can cause myopia in developing mice.

The findings inspire potential novel strategies for myopia intervention, according to the scientists.

Myopia is a pathological ocular refractive condition, caused by abnormal eye growth or the refractive power of the ocular media that renders visual images formed in front of the retina, thus resulting in blurred vision.

SHENZHOU-14

Taikonauts of the Shenzhou-14 crew will carry out 24 in-orbit medical experiments during their six-month stay in China's space station, according to the China Manned Space Agency on Thursday.

These space medical experiments are mainly designed to study how the weightless environment and spaceflights affect taikonauts, said Li Yinghui, deputy chief designer of China's manned space program taikonaut system. Enditem
