BEIJING, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.04 percent, at 3,404.03 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.41 percent lower at 12,973.11 points.
Turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at about 1.18 trillion yuan (about 176.16 billion U.S. dollars), exceeding 1 trillion yuan for nine consecutive trading days and further expanding from 1.12 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks in the coal and chemical fertilizer sectors led the gains, while those related to food processing and kitchen and bathroom appliances were among the biggest losers.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.34 percent to close at 2,825.13 points Tuesday. Enditem
