BEIJING, July 23 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

Chinese scientists have found a gene in crops such as rice and wheat, which can improve the efficiency of photosynthesis and nitrogen utilization and significantly boost grain yield.

Scientists believe the discovery could provide a potential solution for increasing agricultural productivity and efficient utilization of resources, and contribute to human food security.

The discovery made by a team led by researchers with the Institute of Crop Sciences under the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) was published online Friday (Beijing Time) in the academic journal, Science.

A remote-controlled underwater robot that can dive as deep as 6,000 meters has passed sea test and been delivered to its user, according to the Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the developer of the robot.

The Wenhai-1, developed for the Qingdao Institute of Marine Geology of the China Geological Survey, is the country's first autonomous unmanned deep-sea probe that features functions such as wide-range autonomous cruise detection and precise remote control spot sampling, the SIA noted on its website.

China's burgeoning general aviation industry has continued to make significant strides in both aircraft manufacturing and operation, with a growing number of new models and increased support expected to boost the sector.

Joint efforts have been made to facilitate general aviation operations and popularize them in the socio-economic sphere, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

The civil aviation authorities are committed to further boosting the progress of the general aviation sector in major fields such as public service, emerging consumption, short-haul transport, UAV application, and conventional operation during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025). Enditem
