BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

QUANTUM SATELLITE

A Chinese micro-nano quantum satellite has entered its planned orbit and is now operational, the University of Science and Technology of China, one of its developers, said on Thursday.

The low-orbit satellite was designed to conduct real-time quantum key distribution experiments between the satellite and ground station, and to carry out technical verification. It was launched atop a Lijian-1 carrier rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China on Wednesday.

FOSSIL DISCOVERY

Fossils of Hipparion fauna have been found in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

Archaeologists with the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology recently discovered these fossils which could date back to 8 million years ago at a hillside in a pasture in Wenquan County.

5G SERVICES

China Broadnet, the country's new telecom carrier, recently rolled out its commercial 5G services in nine provincial-level regions on a trial run.

This is in addition to the 20 provincial-level regions where China Broadnet's 5G services were available for trial commercial use since June 27, bringing the total number of provincial-level regions with its 5G coverage to 29 currently. Enditem
