TEHRAN, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Iran unveiled on Monday three domestically-built warships including a patrol combat vessel, semi-official Mehr news agency reported.

The three warships, a Shahid (Martyr) Soleimani patrol combat vessel and two high-speed missile watercraft, appeared at a ceremony held in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas and joined the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy, according to the Mehr report.

The new patrol combat vessel is named after Iran's late top commander Qassem Soleimani, who was assassinated in a U.S. drone strike near the airport of Iraq's capital Baghdad in January 2020.

The Shahid Soleimani patrol combat vessel is equipped with a stealth hull with a very low radar cross-section and is capable of carrying out different operations.

It can also carry different types of high-speed military watercraft and allows helicopters to take off from and land on its deck.

The Shahid Soleimani vessel is Iran's first-ever military ship equipped with vertical launching as well as short- and medium-range air defense systems, said Mohammad Baqeri, chairman of the chiefs of staff of the Iranian armed forces, said at the ceremony.

Propelled by four powerful homegrown engines, the vessel can sail under unfavorable climatic conditions and is highly maneuverable with a very low turning radius, he added.

It is also equipped with modern systems for surface, subsurface and aerial tracking and monitoring, target detection, signals intelligence, telecommunication and electronic warfare, Baqeri noted.

In another ceremony in the same city on Sunday, the Navy of the Iranian Army took delivery of two missile-launching vessels, a logistical warship, and a Qadir-class submarine, semi-official Tasnim news agency reported. Enditem
