BEIJING, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news in China.

OCEANIC INTERNAL WAVES

Chinese researchers have discovered the oceanic internal waves generated by the Tonga volcano eruption, according to a recent research article published in the journal Acta Oceanologica Sinica.

Using the satellite images, the researchers observed clear internal wave packets propagating in different directions, said the article.

The length of the internal wave crests ranges from less than 20 km to 67 km. And the characteristic wavelength ranges from 860.9 meters to more than 1,530 meters, which is the typical value of internal waves.

MAGLEV VEHICLE

A maglev vehicle technology test saw a 2.8-tonne car float 35 millimeters above the road and run on a highway in east China's Jiangsu Province.

Developed by the Chengdu-based Southwest Jiaotong University, the car was modified from a traditional vehicle. A permanent magnet array was installed for levitation, and the road was laid with good conductor rail that allowed the car to levitate.

POTENTIAL DIABETES COMPLICATION STRATEGY

Chinese scientists identified a new mechanism which indicates how fat changes one's brain, thus offering a potential strategy to treat cognitive disorders caused by diabetes.

The researchers from Nanjing University demonstrated for the first time that extracellular vesicles (EVs), the lipid-bound vesicles secreted by cells, and their cargo non-coding RNA molecules, served to mediate communication between fat tissues and the brain.

These compounds can be transferred to the brain and enriched in neurons, especially in the hippocampus, according to the study published recently in the journal Cell Metabolism. Enditem
