BEIJING, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese researchers have discovered a new species of Apocynaceae in the Three Gorges Reservoir area of southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, according to the Wuhan Botanical Garden under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

On the basis of literature review, field and herbarium collections, and specimen comparison, the researchers identified it as a new species of Vincetoxicum, one of the largest genera in Apocynaceae, and named it Vincetoxicum pingtaoanum.

According to its current situation in the wild, the researchers assessed the new species as vulnerable, and speculated that it may also be distributed in the neighboring Hubei Province.

The findings were jointly published in the journal Phytotaxa by the Wuhan Botanical Garden, the Chongqing Natural History Museum and the Chongqing Wulipo National Nature Reserve. Enditem
