BEIJING, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Li Guohua, former general manager of the Chinese telecom giant China Unicom has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) due to serious violations of Party discipline and laws, the country's top anti-graft body announced on Friday.

An investigation into Li, also formerly deputy chief of the leading Party members' group of China Unicom, found that he was disloyal to the Party, refused to address the problems identified by the central discipline inspection team during its inspection, and resisted investigations into his problems, said the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision in a joint statement.

Li was found spending public money on private tours, accepting gifts and money as well as banquets that might compromise his impartiality in performing official duties, the statement said.

He failed to report personal matters to authorities according to the rules and connived with his relatives to seek profits by taking advantage of his positions.

Li took advantage of his positions to help others in business operations and securing project contracts and accepted a huge amount of money and valuables in return. He misused his power and caused heavy losses to state assets.

Li severely violated Party discipline and was suspected of taking bribes, misusing his power, and violating duty-related laws, the statement said.

In line with Party regulations and laws, a decision has been made to expel him from the Party, confiscate his illicit gains, and hand over his case for judicial proceedings. Enditem
